​While holding an Executive (and Virtual) Assistant role for many years I had an opportunity to work closely with multiple C-suite level executives all over the world. I realized that there are 5 main characteristics that are essential for these entrepreneurs’ success regardless of where they are located or in which industry they are working.

I’ve just read somewhere that becoming a CEO is like getting into your dream relationship. You either become the happiest person when it does work or the most bitter when it doesn’t. 

Being a CEO is an exciting, but sometimes stressful and uncertain role. CEOs have to manage multiple tasks and perform them all with finesse.

​How can you become a successful CEO when it comes to creating a success mindset?

Here are the 5 things I believe a successful CEO must possess:
  • Be realistic
First, a great CEO will set realistic and achievable expectations that don’t burn out, frustrate, or overwork their team to ensure they are feeling comfortable in their work environment. It’s also good to keep in mind to be fair with your team.
Pro tip: Remember, you were there once too.

  • Must manage stress
Obviously, you don’t want your team to be stressed out and have reduced productivity. Becoming a more effective CEO is to master stress. Take a break, stand up, and go for a walk. Plan for tomorrow. Try my tip: before my week begins, I like to look at my calendar and plan ahead and prioritize my tasks. Then, at the end of every workday, I sum up what’s done and what is still to be done for the upcoming days. 
Pro tip: Find a wellness coach or consultant to design a fitness program to reduce stress in your organization.

  • Communicate clearly & must listen well
Undeniably miscommunication might lead to troubles you might not even think of. When your employees feel left behind they get overwhelmed. Moreover, stress leads to reduced productivity, and worry over their job security. 
Pro-tip: Offer clear guidance and create an open communication environment within your company.

  • Must set the right goals
Without a doubt, the right goal should be measurable, obtainable, actionable, life-oriented, and supported. This goes for both your personal and professional goals.
Pro-tip: Work with an accountability partner (or Virtual Assistant) who can help you stay on track and overlook goals.

  • Be mission-driven
This is critical for your business's success. You must define the why behind every action and ensure that each of your team members is aware of their personal “why” as well.
Pro-tip: Define your personal mission as well.

  • Bonus Tip:

Finally, here is my Executive Bonus tip! Executives' secret weapons are Virtual Assistants! Administrative professionals and especially Virtual Assistants can be the real gatekeepers of your organization. Many VAs to CEOs are highly educated have a wide range of experience, have too many responsibilities, and are far too strategic to be simply called “Virtual Assistants”.

In fact, successful executives need the right person, a reliable assistant to manage those processes, anticipate outcomes, and help them execute the business strategy.
